00:22 I'm Maryaj Bawal and welcome to the showroom.
00:26 On this episode I'm sending some hot rods out on the hot roads
00:30 while I'm staying cool here at the historic Ansem Motors Ford showroom in downtown Port of Spain.
00:35 So now salesman David Eli is letting our host Robert Dumas put the sport in eco sports.
00:45 Sorry guys I'm getting paid by the pun.
00:48 [Music]
00:58 Of course when I entered the vehicle the first thing that I noticed was it was pretty roomy.
01:03 It's very comfortable, I feel snug and I'm not the smallest guy.
01:08 David I'm all about tech. I like these large displays.
01:13 First off I want to get to 95.1.
01:16 Right, well it's an 18-inch touchscreen and you have different preset channels.
01:21 So you can set whatever registration, actually you can set all the registrations you want.
01:25 You can use it as a touchscreen or you can control it from the controls on your steering column.
01:31 One of the things I liked as well is the fact that I can still focus on the road and I can see it in my peripheral.
01:36 Rather I'm going to be totally focusing on that because I would have adjusted that before I actually pulled off of course.
01:41 It's pretty nippy.
01:43 It is. So let me tell you, this Robert is a 1.5 three-cylinder six-speed engine.
01:50 Alright, now you notice I said three cylinders.
01:53 Cylinders usually come four, six, eight, even sixteen.
01:57 But Ford has made an unbalanced engine with three cylinders.
02:00 So basically the cylinder is the power unit of your engine.
02:03 It burns fuel which converts it to mechanical energy which powers the vehicle.
02:08 So what Ford has done is made it two things.
02:12 Engine is lighter and with the three cylinders it burns less fuel.
02:17 But it doesn't compromise on speed or power.
02:21 Fun fact, Ford recycles 1.2 billion plastic bottles a year.
02:26 And out of that they take 300 plastic bottles to make different components in this vehicle that they have recycled.
02:33 All this is some old solo bottle or blue waters.
02:37 Correct.
02:38 How many people in your experience of selling these vehicles, how many people actually know about the paddle shifters or want to engage the paddle shifters?
02:46 Well I mean it's there to show the power of the engine as well.
02:50 Remember this is a six-speed 1.5 three-cylinder.
02:54 If you put it in sport mode then you could activate the paddle shifters.
02:59 So you could manage, you could change the gears if you want.
03:02 But if you do and there's a safety feature that a lot of people don't know.
03:05 If you don't change the gear in time, the gear will change.
03:08 So you won't damage the engine.
03:10 Let me tell you, the same features that you get in this, you get in the Ranger.
03:15 In terms of safety, now Ford makes their vehicles with military grade steel.
03:20 That means the vehicle is completely reinforced.
03:23 In case of a side impact, the doors are not compromised, the cabin is not compromised.
03:28 So your safety, your family, your friends, yourself.
03:31 Like Maschernald right now.
03:33 Maschernald but still not 100.
03:35 Correct.
03:37 Again, the windows are tempered.
03:40 Meaning, in case of a side impact, again depending on the force of course.
03:44 They don't break and come on to you.
03:46 They will shatter and web.
03:48 So you know, you won't have splinters and glass all over the place and whatnot.
03:52 At a quick glance, I immediately saw several USB ports.
03:56 Right, yeah.
03:58 And that to me just screams chargers.
04:01 Chargers charge. I have my phone, the charger.
04:04 So you have your phone charging.
04:06 There's a charger to the back of you.
04:08 Right.
04:09 Passing your side.
04:10 Cool. So right, so you have a long cord that has a stick across here.
04:13 They want to borrow your charger.
04:15 So you're in the back and they want to charge your phone.
04:17 There's a 12 volt behind the driver's seat.
04:19 On the door jam and you can easily charge your phone there.
04:22 Your 18-inch touchscreen comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
04:26 Meaning, what it does, it takes all your apps from your phone once it's plugged into the USB
04:31 and it displays it on the 18-inch touchscreen.
04:34 So when your wife sends you a message and says, "Hey, Robert, bring home some bread."
04:37 Right.
04:38 Press that button in the center, it reads out the message in the car.
04:41 You can reply using your voice.
04:43 It'll type and send the message right back to her.
04:45 So you're completely hands-free.
04:47 You realize the fuel hasn't moved us yet, right?
04:51 You're good here now. You're good.
04:53 I'm telling everybody in this car, yeah, you're good.
04:55 [Music]
04:57 Turn left.
04:59 [Music]
05:02 And you mentioned that it's all-around sensors or is it just reverse sensors?
05:05 Yeah, sensors front and back.
05:07 The vehicle has sensors all around.
05:08 So if there's a small child or pet around the vehicle when you start the drive,
05:13 an icon of the vehicle will show up on the screen and a red line will circle it
05:18 and it will show you not to move off.
05:20 [Music]
05:27 Now we're in an open car park, so I can sort of try and test out how,
05:34 not that you'll ever move at speed in reverse, but at least you'll see how we're going here.
05:41 [Music]
05:49 Yeah, thanks, Herbert.
05:51 You're obviously belt on. You're good to go.
05:53 I'm normally a wing mirror man.
05:55 For my days of rallying, we depend heavily on wing mirrors, rear view mirrors.
05:59 This reverse camera is pretty responsive.
06:02 I'm feeling comfortable with the sensors both front and back.
06:07 The responsiveness was quite impressive.
06:09 Camera has clear visibility, full color, even at night.
06:14 [Music]
06:30 We're going to see this hill test, which I think is a very handy and very useful feature.
06:39 It allows the car to give you like three seconds to transition from the brake pedal to the accelerator without rolling back.
06:46 I'm looking at the steepest part of this hill.
06:52 Okay, so we're going up here now.
06:55 So I can just stop.
06:58 So we're on a hill.
07:00 Okay, so you have the mash brakes.
07:02 So it activates when you stand still.
07:05 So either you start the car or you're stopped in traffic.
07:10 Now, the reason for this is sometimes if you're stopped in the car and you're parked and somebody's parked right behind you.
07:16 You don't roll back on them.
07:18 You don't hit them.
07:19 If you're stuck in traffic, it allows you to transition from your brake pedal to your accelerator.
07:25 You have three seconds without the car rolling back.
07:27 Which is a very useful feature because, like I said, I have a manual.
07:31 You're trying to balance clutch and if you don't know how to balance clutch, you know you're getting a fender bender.
07:38 So if I take my foot off of here now.
07:40 There you go.
07:41 I'm always rolling.
07:42 What's going on here though?
07:43 After mash brake, remember it's three seconds.
07:45 Oh, okay.
07:46 So it's three seconds.
07:47 So it's three seconds.
07:48 It allows you to come off your brake and go to the pedal and not overcompensate and come out too sharp.
07:53 Right.
07:54 Let's try it again.
07:56 One, two.
07:57 Okay, and by now I should have mash gas.
07:59 Mash gas and go up the hill.
08:00 But if I take my foot off here now.
08:01 And the mash brake is going to roll back.
08:03 Okay, mash.
08:04 Mash, mash.
08:05 Yeah, so the brake is applied and then the feature starts.
08:07 There you go.
08:08 There you go.
08:09 Okay, mash brakes.
08:13 There you go.
08:14 Mash brakes.
08:17 And you can let go for a little longer.
08:19 There you go.
08:22 Nice.
08:24 [Music]
08:26 Now this is view.
08:46 Yeah, this is nice.
08:47 Anything missing is a little water now after all that driving.
08:51 I'm sorry to hear that.
08:53 Hold on.
08:54 You have that?
08:55 You have that.
08:56 Thank you, boss.
09:08 Wait now.
09:09 The cool.
09:10 Yes, Robert.
09:11 What do you expect?
09:12 Remember to have the cool bin in the glove compartment.
09:14 What do you mean cool bin?
09:15 Come now.
09:16 Come.
09:17 Cool bin, boy.
09:19 What is cool bin?
09:21 Keep your drinks cool.
09:22 Yes.
09:24 That hard.
09:27 That hard.
09:28 Yeah.
09:29 But check it out.
09:31 I have one more thing to show you.
09:32 Switch off the vehicle for me.
09:34 Another thing.
09:36 I'm still not buying.
09:37 But we'll see.
09:39 So let's open and switch off.
09:42 Switch off.
09:45 Nice.
09:47 Right.
09:49 So once the key is on your person, put it in your pocket.
09:52 It's a lock and unlock.
09:54 It's smart entry.
09:56 You see the three stripes here?
09:57 Just touch it once.
09:59 And go.
10:00 Go.
10:03 Car is locked.
10:05 So get into the car.
10:07 Swing to the handle.
10:08 And open.
10:11 There you go.
10:13 You're good.
10:15 You're good.
10:16 [Laughter]
10:17 [Music]
10:19 And that's one test drive down.
10:36 And we know due to COVID-19, everyone is concerned with the sanitizing of the vehicle before they get in.
10:43 Well, the process of sanitizing vehicles between test drives is thorough.
10:48 So you can feel safe and secure to come down to the showroom for your very own try, behind the wheel of any vehicle at Ansa Motors.
10:56 That's also true for each and every service done at the service center.
11:07 Both the Ansa Motors staff and the car owners are well taken care of with proper procedures designed to protect all.
11:14 If you're visiting the Ansa Motors Ford showroom for any particular reason, there are a few extra protocols you'd have to follow due to COVID-19.
11:22 Like wearing your mask.
11:24 Don't worry, we have special permission for that production for today.
11:28 Now there's some other things you have to be mindful of.
11:31 Sanitizing your hands, checking your temperature, making sure that you write that down, write down any symptoms or anything that you have, as well as signing for it, your contact number and any other details.
11:43 That is so Ansa Motors can assist if they can with any contact tracing if necessary.
11:49 And let me also tell you that apart from the awesome 2020 models we have in the showroom, there's so much more and so many other reasons to visit.
11:59 Ansa Motors is actually the oldest company of the automotive sector in Trinidad and Tobago.
12:04 Charles McInerney established the company in 1919.
12:09 The Ford brand has been here guys.
12:12 Hi, Mariangela Roberts. Can I help you?
12:21 Hi, Ashley. Is this a real car or is it a prop?
12:25 Yes, it is real, but we just have it on display for persons to take pictures with.
12:29 It's a real car from 1914, invented by Henry Ford, of course.
12:33 It was one of the most commercialized cars in that time period.
12:37 Is this one?
12:39 Not anymore. But if you want to see some more Ford's history, come with me.
12:42 I would love to.
12:44 [Music]
12:59 So, Mariange, this was the sign I was telling you about.
13:03 It's actually the Ford logo before the popular one that everyone knows today, the blue logo.
13:08 And it was on the original building in 1919.
13:12 So, when did it get to the showroom?
13:14 Around 1914, they actually dug out a piece of the original wall.
13:18 The actual wall?
13:19 Yes, and it's here behind the sign.
13:21 So, a piece of history right here in our showroom.
13:24 This is amazing.
13:25 Yes.
13:26 Nice.
13:27 Coming up on the showroom.
13:38 [Music]
13:54 [Music]
14:18 So, they let me bring out the Mustang today.
14:20 We're on a track where there's no speed limit.
14:23 They have one condition though.
14:26 I had to come too and race them in the RS.
14:30 Oh, safety first. Seatbelt and helmet.
14:45 [Music]
15:14 [Music]
15:43 [Music]
16:05 Mustang power.
16:09 Now, this Ford RS.
16:11 It's alright, it's fast.
16:13 But you had me from the start, but at the end is where I took it.
16:16 Who won the robot?
16:17 I think the Mustang won, but we had to review that footage.
16:19 Nah.
16:20 But let me tell you something.
16:22 Donuts.
16:23 Donuts.
16:24 Alright, let me see what you have.
16:27 Alright.
16:34 [Music]
17:03 [Music]
17:08 It's waiting for them apples.
17:10 I like it.
17:11 You really like this car?
17:13 I do.
17:14 You know I'm more of a truck man at heart.
17:15 Robert, I know that.
17:16 That's why I set up a second test drive with the Ford Ranger.
17:19 Actually, it's right over there waiting for you.
17:21 Nice.
17:22 Alright, I'll take that.
17:24 [Music]
17:34 Nice.
17:36 Hey, Ash.
17:37 Hey, Robert.
17:38 So, I heard you have three phones.
17:40 Three, yes.
17:41 Yeah.
17:42 You have enough ports for me?
17:43 Yes, I do.
17:44 We have two USB ports, two 12 volts, and one in the back as well.
17:47 And how do you feel about the keyless entry?
17:49 That's an update from your truck.
17:50 That was cool.
17:51 That was cool, yes.
17:52 Yeah.
17:53 That's an update for a nice touch, a nice upgrade.
17:55 Nice.
17:56 So, are you ready to go for a test drive?
17:57 I am.
17:58 Now, seeing we're on a truck.
17:59 Yeah.
18:00 I want to do what, you know what a Moose test is, right?
18:02 Of course I do.
18:03 Of course you do.
18:04 We're number one for that.
18:06 [Music]
18:36 Are you ready to do some off-roading?
18:38 Off-roading for sure.
18:39 But just one thing, you know, just to play the part, Henry Ford said it best, you know,
18:44 in one of his most famous comments or quotes, that you can have any color as long as it's black.
18:50 Yes.
18:51 So, that's why it's black.
18:52 Well, not anymore.
18:53 You can get a lot of different colors.
18:54 But just for you today, I will get you a black first to go off-road.
18:57 Thank you.
18:58 Sounds good?
18:59 Appreciate it.
19:00 Nice.
19:01 Let's go.
19:02 [Music]
19:13 So, I know I have the older model Ranger and immediately there's certain things that are upgraded.
19:20 And I like about this.
19:21 I still like my 3.26 Ford.
19:23 Let me just put it out there.
19:25 We have that too, you know.
19:26 We have options.
19:27 We have the manual, automatic, 4x4, 4x2.
19:30 Fair enough.
19:31 Yeah.
19:32 So, I like, you know, the push start.
19:34 I like my key, the smart access, another really cool feature that I also saw in the EcoSport.
19:40 That immediately sells me.
19:42 Because, you know, you keep things in your pocket.
19:44 You might be fiddling around with groceries or something and you're able to open.
19:47 Yes, super convenient.
19:48 Super convenient.
19:49 Especially for women too.
19:50 What I notice as well is the steering wheel is a little thicker around the padding, which I like.
19:55 Because it gives me more control.
19:57 It makes me also want to hold the steering wheel better.
20:00 You know, that will tend to position.
20:02 It's comfortable and it doesn't heat up clearly.
20:04 Yeah.
20:05 So, a lot of little upgrades but they make the world of difference.
20:08 So, aren't you feeling the difference in the steering as well?
20:10 It's now electronic power assisted.
20:12 So, more power.
20:13 It's softer to the touch.
20:15 So, for all your 3.5 point turns, it's really easy.
20:18 Right.
20:19 Yeah.
20:20 Does it have more lock?
20:21 Yes.
20:22 Nice.
20:23 Because that was one thing in my older model.
20:24 The lock was sufficient but it was limited.
20:27 Okay.
20:28 Well, you'll try it out today.
20:30 Much better.
20:31 As well as my favorite feature of mine is the sync system.
20:34 Like, not a vehicle has that.
20:36 It's a Ford made system.
20:38 You can have Apple CarPlay, Android Auto.
20:41 It's a high definition screen.
20:43 So, you have your audio.
20:45 It's dual AC now.
20:46 Right.
20:47 Right.
20:48 And you even have your cooling vent like we mentioned before.
20:50 Phone, Bluetooth, navigation, apps, everything.
20:54 So, you don't need to take your eyes off the road at all.
20:56 Like I'm doing right now.
20:58 Back on the road.
20:59 Yes.
21:00 And what about the cruise control?
21:01 Because I mean, I'm again, I'm accustomed to the cruise control.
21:03 Yeah.
21:04 What's different?
21:05 Well, for the first time when we're on the highway, that hasn't changed much.
21:08 That's pretty standard.
21:09 Yeah.
21:10 You just set your limit and good to go.
21:12 Make sure I stay under 100.
21:14 Yes.
21:15 Because I have a hot, I have what you call a hot foot.
21:16 Yeah.
21:17 As you will see later.
21:18 As you see with this new demerit system.
21:19 Yeah.
21:20 You need to be careful.
21:21 You'll see that later because of course, we're going to take this, see what speed it can
21:25 get up to, see if it dances on the road.
21:27 I'm going to take it into a river.
21:30 Yes, I can't wait for the river.
21:31 Yeah.
21:32 Really see whether or not, you know, what's that system?
21:35 The, I think it's 800.
21:38 800 and I'm waiting that.
21:39 800 and I'm in.
21:40 When I test that out, you know, the floods in Trinidad, I get to test that out regularly.
21:45 Regular, unfortunately.
21:46 Yeah.
21:47 That's unfortunate.
21:48 I enjoy it actually.
21:49 Don't polish your car.
21:50 Yeah.
21:51 So, what are some of the things that you've done with your Ranger?
21:54 I mean, I know mine, I mean, I've, I've really tested my axle and the differential and all
21:59 these different things.
22:00 Yeah.
22:01 And it's always come through for me.
22:02 Again, I've modified mine a bit in terms of changing tires and rims.
22:05 Yeah.
22:06 And they say that affects the traction sometimes on your vehicle because it was built.
22:09 Do you find so?
22:10 Yeah, I find so.
22:11 I find it slightly affected.
22:12 But, you know, I've really put it through the test.
22:15 Yeah.
22:16 Well, I haven't changed anything.
22:17 Mine is just factory, as it came from the factory.
22:18 Yeah.
22:19 Do want to eventually do some customizations.
22:20 But like I said, I have a 4x2 automatic and what is something many people don't know,
22:27 the 4x2 and 4x4 is the same chassis, same suspension.
22:31 Like you can't tell, I can't tell the difference from the outside.
22:34 Right.
22:35 I have to look inside to look for the 2 high, 4 high, 4L lock.
22:38 But our 4x2 automatic does come with a diff lock.
22:41 So, when you're going up like a steep hill or a little off road, it does work.
22:46 You don't get out skidding.
22:47 And I like to go to the beach.
22:49 I like to take long drives out of town.
22:51 I've googled it.
22:52 Yeah.
22:53 I like to take long drives out of town.
22:55 So, I've definitely put it to the test on rough roads and it's very impressive.
23:00 And why is it a heavy T?
23:02 Because if I go for the competitor, we won't call any names that which shall not be named.
23:07 Yes.
23:08 You don't have to get the heavy T there.
23:10 Why the heavy T for this vehicle?
23:13 Because this is for only real drivers.
23:15 This is a real truck.
23:17 It has the highest carrying capacity.
23:20 So, it's the heaviest truck.
23:21 It's not fixed or repaired yet?
23:22 No.
23:23 Then, what about the other truck?
23:24 I don't know.
23:25 I don't know.
23:26 I'm just going to go for the heavy T.
23:27 Okay.
23:28 I'm going to go for the heavy T.
23:29 Okay.
23:30 I'm going to go for the heavy T.
23:31 Okay.
23:32 I'm going to go for the heavy T.
23:33 Okay.
23:34 I'm going to go for the heavy T.
23:35 Okay.
23:36 I'm going to go for the heavy T.
23:37 Okay.
23:38 I'm going to go for the heavy T.
23:39 Okay.
23:40 I'm going to go for the heavy T.
23:41 Okay.
23:42 I'm going to go for the heavy T.
23:43 Okay.
23:44 I'm going to go for the heavy T.
23:45 Okay.
23:46 I'm going to go for the heavy T.
23:47 Okay.
23:48 I'm going to go for the heavy T.
23:49 Okay.
23:50 I'm going to go for the heavy T.
23:51 Okay.
23:52 I'm going to go for the heavy T.
23:53 Okay.
23:54 I'm going to go for the heavy T.

25:15 Okay.
25:19 Okay.
25:23 Okay.
25:26 So, Robert, what do you think?
25:50 I have to say, I owned one.
25:52 I've always owned a Ranger, but after today's drive, where I actually got to put it through
25:57 its paces, it really is a great truck.
25:59 Yeah, many upgrades, and one thing we didn't touch on yet is the safety.
26:03 It has a built-in alarm, and it has the number one five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, meaning
26:10 it has collision protection, reinforced ABC zones, boron steel in the doors, everything
26:15 like that, so it is the safest pickup.
26:17 So, when I was running through those banks, I didn't have to worry because if I'd hit,
26:20 apart from if you break it, you're both hit.
26:22 I would be fine.
26:23 Yes, for sure.
26:24 And these lights, I mean, I've been meaning to ask you all the time because these have
26:28 been on all day.
26:29 Yeah.
26:30 This is one of the 2021 upgrades, daytime running lights.
26:33 Yeah.
26:34 A lot of people love that feature.
26:35 It's a new feature.
26:36 It's cool.
26:37 It looks as if it's blinking or smiling at you all the time.
26:39 Yeah.
26:40 So, I don't want to hear you making a joke about fix or repair, but you have one.
26:43 Fix or repair daily, definitely not for these trucks, definitely not for Ford right now.
26:47 It's for Ford only real drivers.
26:49 I definitely put it through the paces today.
26:51 You know, we definitely went further.
26:53 Yes, for sure.
26:54 That's our tagline, go further.
26:56 And now for our real behind the scenes moments.
27:00 Before Robert and Ashley went down the road, we decided to challenge that claim of "Build
27:09 Ford Tough".
27:10 So, we thought that we would do a tow test, but not just any tow test.
27:15 We're not going to have it to a sedan or an SUV or even another Ranger.
27:21 Nope.
27:22 We're towing a tow truck.
27:24 A tow truck towing the Mustang.
27:26 [Music]
27:55 That was easy.
27:57 Do you know the Frankie Boudreaux and Wallerfield Racetrack used to be an airfield?
28:01 I should have organized me an aircraft to be towed.
28:04 You never know what could go down on the showroom.
28:07 Stay tuned for next week's episode.
