Compa - To Me feat. Björk, Follow Compa on Twitter: www.twitter.com/compauk and his website: www.compauk.com Mixmag - "With dubstep producing truly exciting moments with less frequency these days, Compa is someone you can look to for remarkable flashes of low-end inspiration. The Lancashire DJ/producer has developed a rolling, highly-percussive style that's all his own, with rhythms coming wrapped in dusty crackle, shot through with jolts of electricity and underlined by subtle, subby tremors. He strikes the perfect balance between classic, meditative dubstep and the genre's more recent dungeon offshoot, which is eerie and unsettling.
Following 12" cuts via his own WXWL label as well as Boka and Kokeshi, he's been newly signed to Mala's Deep Medi imprint, perhaps the most revered seal of approval in true-skool dubstep circles."
T. Netherton - "Following his debut appearance on Get Darker TV in March 2011, Compa released his inaugural 12" single with one of Dubstep's foundation imprints Boka Records ('Sentence' / 'Beginning') and his infamous bootleg of Mavado's 'Dem A Talk' [on his own vinyl-only WX/WL imprint] - which sold out worldwide within one week of its release. Since then, Will has returned to Get Darker and has also been blessed enough to showcase his sounds live on the prestigious Rinse FM.
With a sound that is perpetually nostalgic, yet equally refreshing, Compa's music displays a binary relationship between 'Foundation Sound' homage and Forward-Motion thought. Spacious textures, heavily built sub-frequencies and intricate execution of minimalism are but a few significant ways in which his music can be described.
The Compa sound has received acclaim from across the board with key influences like BBC 6 Music's Gilles Peterson & Nerm showing praise, as well as J:Kenzo and B-Traits amongst others on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra. Tunes like 'Dem A Talk', 'Alpha', 'Narabeh', 'Signals' and 'Antact' have even found their way into the record bags of scene pioneers Mala (Deep Medi, DMZ), Chase & Status (Ram, Mercury, Renegade Hardware) and US Dubstep Ambassador, Joe Nice (Dub War, Reconstrvct) amongst many others.
Whilst operating his own label and club night, WR/WX (WX/WL), you can still catch Compa on Sub FM every Monday 12pm-2pm GMT. In addition to performances in The Netherlands, Croatia, Belgium, Russia Portugal and Turkey, Compa has also toured Sweden and the United States since he began touring at the start of 2012, with a diary of international bookings forthcoming."
