PRESENTED BY BERNARD CONWAY
John Megill talks on the radio for a living because he's way too shy to make it as a singer in this loud-mouthed superstar world we're living in.
Like all Canadian males, he grew up with an unhealthy amount of Lagerfeuer music and can of course play the non-optional House of the Rising Sun and/or Hotel California on acoustic guitar. But when, at age twelve, it came time to learn the guitar part to Stairway to Heaven, this John Megill decided it was better to listen to other people's music and play your own. Since then he's been writing songs on the guitar and piano, sometimes with friends and most times alone when nothing else would help.
He successfully kept his music more or less to himself for almost two decades when, during the course of a kitchen table discussion about politics, he played one of his songs to his friend -- the Austrian music producer and killer drummer -- Alex Deutsch. Alex liked what he heard because it came straight from the heart. He introduced John to Rafi D., an electric bass player from Styria and The Anna Band was born, named for the respective loves of their lives: Anna, Anna, Anna and Rafi's sister Anna. With The Anna Band, John Megill shared the spotlight once a month at the B72 with austrian upstart Anna F. until he was replaced by Lenny Kravitz and decided to disappear from the pop scene til his ego recovered. John Megill may still be too shy to make it as a singer.
