Mexican authorities said they were analyzing options on how to reconnect a scenic highway in northwestern Mexico after it dramatically collapsed over the weekend, trapping one truck driver who was able to walk away uninjured.

The road connecting Ensenada and Tijuana collapsed on Saturday near Salsipuedes around 2:00 am local time.

Aerial views show the extent of the damage. According to local media, the highway sunk about 30 meters along a 200 meter-long stretch of road.

The highway remains closed and Ensenada Mayor Gilberto Hirata said officials were urgently analyzing different options to reconnect the road.

Authorities are keen to re-open the highway as such a closure would negatively impact the local economy.
