Two dozen feared dead in Iraq after suicide attack on ministry

It is feared as many as 24 people may have been killed in Iraq after six suicide bombers blew themselves up in the Ministry of Transport in Baghdad, officials say.

The exact number of dead continues to vary but footage shot from outside the government building in the northeast of the Iraqi capital only hinted at the deadly nature of the attack.

Security sources say the militants stormed the ministry taking and killing several hostages, before killing themselves. Fifty others were also wounded in the strike.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the assault but such suicide bombings are a frequent tactic employed by Sunni al-Qaeda inspired extremists.

The latest violence in Baghdad comes as government forces battle militants for control of Anbar region in the west of the country.
