U.N. report on child sex abuse scorned by Vatican, praised by victim

The Vatican responds to a scathing U.N. report on child sex abuse.
In a written statement, the Vatican says it will study the report and that it is committed to "defending and protecting the rights of the child."
The report by the U.N. Committee on the Rights of the Child says church officials kept quiet about sex abuse to protect the reputation of the church.
The church also hit back about criticisms about the Vatican's opposition to homosexual activity, contraception and abortion.
The Vatican called it quote "an attempt to interfere with Catholic Church teaching... and in the exercise of religious freedom."
At the United Nations in Switzerland, Miguel Hurtado, who says he was abused by his parish priest when he was 16, welcomes the report's findings.
