UPS Hydraulic Series Hybrid.
The mechanical transmission is replaced with 2 hydraulic pumps, 1 on the engine flywheel and another on the differential pinion. The hydraulic system includes 2 pressure accumulators that store energy from engine output and from brake regeneration.
NOTE: the engine rpm as it pulls up at the intersection and then drives off. The small amounts of regen captured as the van pulled up plus the hydraulic pressure accumulated from the idling motor is enough to provide power for acceleration. Using stored energy for acceleration leads to the vehicle needing a motor sized only for cruise power levels which leads to huge fuel savings http://goo.gl/ek8Dj
