How To Clean Your Dirty Makeup Brushes

Dirty makeup brushes harbor dead skin cells and bacteria. Clean your used brushes at least once every two weeks.

What you need are fairly simple--some hand soap, preferable an antibacterial hand soap, and some clean microfiber towel or paper towel.

Let's get started!

1. Wet the bristles with some lukewarm water. Pump soap on your hand and swirl the bristle in your palm. Work the soap into the bristle and rinse. Make sure you point the brush downward so the water doesn't get inside the ferrule.

2. Gently squeeze excess water and flick the brush, get it as dry as possible.

3. Pat the brush dry and let it lay flat on its side.

4. Repeat with the rest of the brushes. If a brush is extra dirty, soap, rinse and repeat until water runs clear.

5. Lay all the brushes on the towel to dry overnight. Test the brush tip and see if they are dry the next day. You may gently swirl bristle tips on a clean piece of paper towel to remove remaining moisture as necessary.

That's it. Store brushes upright when they are dry.
