X-Men rise above Godzilla, reaching top of box office

Mutant superheroes have smashed into North American theaters this weekend.

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" takes the top spot on the box office charts this week, pulling in $90.7 million in ticket sales.

Things heat up when Hugh Jackman's sharp-clawed Wolverine travels back in time and is drawn into battle with shape-shifting Mystique, played by Jennifer Lawrence.

The mighty Godzilla has dropped to second place with $31.4 million in ticket sales over the weekend.

Even with huge competition, the film is holding strong.

Through Monday, Rentrak says, it will have pulled in just under $160 million in the North American market.

The romantic comedy "Blended" didn't quite get the lion's share. But the film places third this week.

Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore play single parents, who after having a bad blind date, find themselves at the same African resort with their kids.

Situations CAN change - we'll see who holds strong at the Box Office next
