City say that Tevez, 27, was not granted leave last week and should have stayed with the Premier League leaders throughout the international break.

They instructed their lawyers to take action following last week's absence.

His advisors also claimed they had not been informed of any disciplinary proceedings resulting from his actions.

Reports suggested that the player has a medical certificate which states he is unable to train or play, although his spokespeople could not confirm that.

Tevez was also due at a meeting arranged by the club on Monday, although discussions had taken place between high-ranking City officials and Tevez, and his team, over the weekend.

Both sides are understood to accept that a transfer away from the club remains the best option.

Manchester City declined to comment when contacted regarding the matters raised by Tevez's advisors.
