Jen aura quinze ans cette année. Depuis la disparition de son père, elle vit seule avec sa jeune mère Sarah, un peu à l'écart de Covina, petite ville d'Amérique du nord. Un jour Ian, le demi-frère de son père, s'installe dans leur grange pour prêter main forte. Jen est fascinée par cet homme qui ne semble appartenir à rien ni à personne. Cette présence inattendue va éloigner la mère et la fille. Jen s'échappe avec Ian le temps d'une nuit violente et sauvage qui le force à s'enfuir seul dans les forêts hostiles du Nord. Commence alors une impitoyable chasse à l'homme. Pour Jen, rien ne sera jamais plus comme avant.
