France: Sarkozy detained in Paris over corruption allegations

Media has gathered outside the headquarters of the judicial police in Nanterre where former French President Nicolas Sarkozy is currently being held in police custody for questioning over alleged corruption charges, Tuesday.

Sarkozy was allegedly informed of details regarding an investigation into irregularities in his 2007 election campaign. Sarkozy can be detained for up to 24 hours without charge, and this can be extended by a further 24 hours if deemed necessary.
