B.Ed Technical Education Launching Ceremony at Virtual University of Pakistan

Virtual University of Pakistan is a Partner with University of the Punjab and Technical University Kaiserslautern, Germany in developing a new generation of TVET educators.

"Virtual University of Pakistan, University of the Punjab and Technical University of Kaiserslautern Germany launched the B.Ed in Technical Education on Wednesday, which is a pre-service study program to train a new generation of teachers imparting technical and vocational education and training (TVET). This type of study program for the TVET sector is being implemented for the first time in Pakistan. The one-year post graduate study program is a venture of Virtual University of Pakistan, University of the Punjab, and the Technical University of Kaiserslautern, which is one of the leading German universities for TVET teacher study program. Introduction of this new study program is part of a comprehensive reform being spearheaded by the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) through TVET Reform Support Program, which is co-funded by the European Union, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands, the Royal Norwegian Embassy and the Federal Republic of Germany and being implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft International Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

The new study program was launched a ceremony held at PU, where Rector VU Dr. Naveed Malik, Vice Chancellor PU Dr. Mujahid Kamran, Director General NAVTTC Muhammad Yahya, Coordinator TVET Reform Support Program Hans Bruns, First Secretary Economic Cooperation and Development German Embassy Almut Knop, Director IER Prof Dr Mumtaz Akhter and large number of government officials and people from academia attended the ceremony.

First Secretary German Embassy Almut Knop in her remarks congratulated the three universities, NAVTTC and TVET Reform Support Program for achieving another milestone as far as implementation of the TVET reform is concerned. She said implementation of these reforms will help Pakistan to reshape its skill development system, leading millions of youth to decent jobs.

Dr. Naveed A Malik lauded the cooperation among the three universities to initiate this new B.Ed program. He was of the view that it will help generate a new generation of skilled TVET teachers. He said that one of the main aspects of the study program is to offer an attractive academic qualification/degree both with relevant technical and pedagogical competencies".
