Thassos Guide - The Monastery of Archangel Michael
The monastery of Archangel Michael is located on the road between the villages Astris and Aliki. It is one of the most important sights of Thassos and is distinguished by a piece of the Precious Nails (some of the nails of Christ's Crucifixion), kept in the altar.
In 1974 monks under the guidance of Geronda Ephraim came from Philotheou Monastery and worked hard to transform the monastery, which had remained deserted until then. Since then, the Monastery of Archangel Michael has been a women's convent and a dependency of Philotheou Monastery on Mount Athos.
This is also one of the monasteries that Geronda Ephraim has taken nuns from to help him open up monasteries in the United States and Canada.
