Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samiti (PCJSS) president Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma, also known as Santu Larma, on Tuesday said the CHT Peace Accord was signed only to disarm the people of the hill tracts.

He also said the government did not keep the promises made at the time of signing the accord.

Santu Larma said this while speaking at a discussion to mark the 17th anniversary of the accord at a city hotel.

Accusing the government of cheating the people of the hill tracts, Santu Larma said the government is not willing to implement the peace accord.

Earlier on November 29, at a press meet of the PCJSS, Santu Larma threatened a non co-operation movement from May 1 next year if the government doesn't implement the peace accord by April 30 next year.

Following this, Awami League leader and former MP of Rangamati, Dipankar Talukdar in a meeting in Rangamati on Monday said the movement should be tackled on the streets.

Santu Larma replied that they have to face each other not only on the streets, but also on the hills and jungles.

Addressing the discussion, writer and columnist Syed Abul Maksud said it is the moral and constitutional duty of the government to fulfill the CHT peace accord.

United NAP president Pankaj Bhattacharya and Barrister Sarah Hossain were also present on the occasion.
