An Egyptian court sentences seven men to death over the killing of 25 policemen last year.

Among the seven ... a prominent Islamist militant, Adel Habara.

The attack happened in August 2013 near the border with Israel.

It came after the government violently cleared out two protests camps set up by supporters of deposed Islamist president, Mohamed Mursi in Cairo.

The court also sentenced 25 others to prison sentences -- ranging from 15 years to life -- on related charges.

Egypt's government says more than 500 people, mostly police and soldiers, have been killed across the country in Islamist militant attacks since last summer.

Hundreds of people have been sentenced to death since last year's crackdown, as President Abdel al-Sisi faces a growing Islamist insurgency in the Sinai Peninsula neighboring Israel.
