A 4-year-old child in California has lost a foot after being attacked by a police dog. The K-9 lived in the Hesperia home with a police officer handler who is also the little boy's father.

A 4-year-old child in California was attacked by a police dog. The K-9 lived in the Hesperia home with a police officer handler who is also the little boy's father.

The incident occurred on Sunday.

Neighbors rushed to help.

Among them was Jeff Houlemarde who heard the screams and broke down a fence to reach the boy.

Reflecting on the ordeal, he stated, "I run up to the dog and kick him, and I kicked him in the back hind quarters and he still didn't release the boy...So I jumped on top of the dog and had to pry his mouth open."

The father and undercover officer, Mike Mastaler, had been inside the house at the time of the attack. He left the dog named Jango in the yard and believed his son was playing indoors while he changed clothes.
