It was a slap that echoed across the Internet. A very good slap. Loud, crisp, perfectly executed. The original, 2-minute video of the assault and ensuing mayhem aboard a New York subway last weekend has clocked up nearly 2.5 million views in the three days since its upload.

It happened on the F train just before 5 a.m. on Saturday after a woman, now identified as 21-year-old Danay Howard, loudly expressed her dislike for the fashion tastes of another passenger, since identified as 25-year-old Jorge Pena.

The video speaks for itself, so suffice to say words gave way some bag-flinging, which escalated with the slap, which in turn brought on a brawl involving at least four people.

Police were waiting at West 4th St station, where they arrested the Pena along with the Howard and two of her friends who attacked Pena, post-slap.

Pena, and Howard’s two friends were themselves slapped with misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct charges.
