Meet Byron and Emily Schlenker – the father and daughter duo who hold the Guinness World Records for the world’s widest male and female tongues.

From the pictures it’s clear to see that Byron’s and Emily’s tongues are larger than your average licker – but the stats are really something.

Byron’s tongue measures a monstrous 8.6cm across – meaning it’s a whole 2cm wider than an iPhone 6. And 14-year-old Emily isn’t far behind, with her tongue measuring 7.3cm at its widest point.

Amazingly Byron and Emily discovered their tonguey talents quite by accident, when Emily took a copy of the Guinness Book of World Records out of the library for a school project, and Byron instinctively turned to the page featuring the man who at that time held the record for world’s widest tongue.

Talking about the life-changing moment, Byron explained: ‘On the way home I started to think, “you know my tongue’s pretty wide, I wonder how wide my tongue is?”‘

And Byron explained that his gob-smacking record has made him quite the celebrity in his hometown of Syracuse, New York.

He explained: ‘I get stopped by people at the grocery store or when I’m out in town to take a picture. I have had people come to my house to sign their record book.

‘I even had one lady who asked me to lick her Guinness Book, which I politely declined.’

But while dad has been happy to embrace the celebrity, 14-year-old Emily was initially less keen to enter the limelight.

She explained: ‘I had to think about submitting for the record for a while, but after seeing how much fun my dad has had with it, I decided I would do it.’

She went on: ‘After all, how many people have an opportunity to be in the Guinness Book of World Records?’

And Byron’s wife Vicki confirmed that yes, they have been asked the inevitable questions about their love life.

The 45-year-old explained: ‘A lot of my friends make jokes about Byron’s tongue and our love life, but we try to keep it clean. We’re a wholesome family with three young ladies in the house, so we just kinda laugh it off.’
