“Bassem Sabry,” is named after the Egyptian journalist who was killed last year and was noted for his work covering the Egyptian revolution. The video is set in the wilderness with an eclectic cast of characters and it's the combination of ornate costumes, big personalities, quirky visuals, and an all around sense of freedom and exploration that makes this video scream of Montreal. Whether it be a ritual to extract milk from a honeycomb, or Barnes picnicking in an open field, or enjoying a soothing bath in the one indoor shot, there is never any shortage of compelling visuals and slightly head scratching moments. It’s all classic of Montreal and continues to establish them as a group that is often imitated but never truly replicated.
