Gaza War 2014: UN-run refugee center hit by shells, kill at least 15

International condemnation over Israel’s military actions in Gaza intensified after a refugee center at a school run by the United Nations was shelled, reportedly by the Israeli army.
A Gaza UN-run school filled with refugees was shelled on Thursday (July 24) killing at least 15, while as many as 200 were injured, according to CNN.
The Washington Post reported that the shells were fired by an Israeli tank, despite the UN saying it had given the school’s precise co-ordinates to the Israeli army so that the shelter would not be harmed.
The Israeli army says it did not deliberately target the school and that the incident occurred on a day of heavy fighting with Hamas militants in the town where the school is located.
The shelling killed at least 15 people, who were, according to reports, mostly women and children.
Israel has urged Gaza residents to flee areas where military action is taking place, but with Gaza measuring just over 40 kilometers in length and about 12 kilometers at its widest point, critics say civilians have nowhere to flee.
