A promising young Malaysian student, 17-year-old Nur Syazwani Arifin, mysteriously died while taking her first SMP paper on Wednesday (November 6).

According to her father, Arifin Deraman, Nur Syazwani had complained of a headache, backache and chest pains about two weeks before. When he brought her to a clinic, she was diagnosed with possible gastric complications. However, the morning she sat for her first SPM paper, she reportedly felt fine and was in good spirits.

Less than a half hour hour after she began taking the exam at Sekolah Agama Maahad Saniah, Nur Syazwani fainted and fell from her chair. Fifteen minutes later, her father was rushing her to a hospital. However, when they arrived at Tengku Anis Hospital at 9:00 a.m., she was pronounced dead.

The district police chief said Nur Syazwani had no history of chronic illness. Meanwhile, the chairman of State Human Development Education and Higher Learning Committee said a detailed investigation will be carried out.
