What makes us human? Can a synthetic creation ever think and feel the way we do? And if so, what would that mean?
From the makers of Broadchurch comes Humans, an ambitious eight-part drama, which asks its audience these very questions.
Humans is set in a parallel present where the latest must-have gadget for any busy family is a ‘Synth’ - a highly-developed robotic servant eerily similar to its live counterpart. In the hope of transforming their lives, Joe Hawkins makes the decision to invest in a Synth, believing the addition of ‘Anita’ to the chaotic Hawkins household will give his wife Laura and him the time they so desperately need and help them re-connect both as a couple and as a family.
On her return from a work trip, a suspicious Laura seems less won over by Anita’s presence in her home. There’s just something about her. Every now and again she does something inexplicable, something… almost human.
