Indian police injure several protesters in Srinagar

After Friday prayers people took to the streets in Nowhatta and other areas of Srinagar and staged forceful anti-India demonstrations. They raised slogans in favour of freedom and against India. Indian police personnel resorted to heavy lathi-charge and excessive teargas shelling to disperse the protesters. Several people sustained injuries in the police action. The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, in a statement strongly denounced the brutal use of force on the people who were offering prayers in the premises of Jamia Masjid in Srinagar.
