Between 1980 and 1991 Dutch painter MAURICE HEERDINK made this unique series THE MAYAS. About the Indian culture from Mexico, Guatemala, Belize and Honduras. The works deal with Xibalba, snake lady, god K'awil, Jaguar sun god, Lord Chan Balam from Palenque, sacrifice, bloodletting, ballgame. Books from people such as Michael D Coe, Linda Schiele and Nicholas Hellmuth were unlimited sources of inspiration.
