Lesson#10
How to write equation of straight line? (1)
Q. How to write the equation of straight line?
To write equation of a straight line we need some information about the line, like:
* Either the line is horizontal or vertical or slant in simple words slope of line.
* One or two points of line.
* Intercepts of line.
* Distance of line from origin.
To write equation we don't need all of the above information, We only use some combinations of this information.
Q. How to write the equation of a horizontal line?
If it is given that the line is
Horizontal
or
Parallel to x-axis
or
perpendicular to y-axis
or
Slope of line = 0
then equation will be
y = c
What are intercepts of line?
X-Intercepts:
If a line intersects x-axis at (a , 0) , then "a" is called x-intercept of the line.
Y-Intercept:
If a line intersects y-axis at (0 , b) , then "b" is called y-intercept of the line.
