Part 1 : Sowing the Seed
How did Persian wind up in the Indian subcontinent in the first place? Where did it first arrive? The first part of the 2-part lecture traces the arrival of Persian into Sindh, and from there into the great courts of Lahore, Ucch, Multan and Delhi. We will discuss the interaction of the foreign language with India and its Indianization, with special emphasis on a Ghaznavid poet from our very own Lahore.
Shariq Khan has just completed his bachelors with a joint major in History and Asian Studies and a concentration in Islamic Civilizations and Cultures from Kenyon College in Ohio, US. He has also studied Farsi at SOAS, London.
