The Canadian Supreme Court ruling allowing Ecuadoran indigenous communities to sue oil giant Chevron for environmental damage is a tremendous victory for both those directly affected as well as for ecologists. Chevron is accused of contaminating rivers in the Amazonian region, killing wildlife, damaging local agriculture, and causing cancer among the population.
