Qatari group takes over Rome's "Dolce Vita" hotel

A Qatari hotel group is to buy the famous Westin Excelsior hotel in Rome for 222 million euros.

The Excelsior opened its doors 1906 and became synonymous with Italian style and opulence in the 1960s and most of all Federico Fellini’s landmark film La Dolce Vita.

Various Italian media have described the hotel as a piece of national history which is being given away to wealthy foreign interests.
