Inside the Americas – Hurricane Erica Ravages Dominica

On the night of August 26, 2015, tropical storm Erica pounded Dominica, dumping 13 inches of rain on the Caribbean island. Rivers burst their banks, resulting in rock and landslides that destroyed homes, bridges, and farmland, while claiming 35 lives. Nowhere was the devastation as great as in the southeastern village of Petite Savanne, where an avalanche led to an explosion in a distillery that took the lives of family and friends.
