Netflix plans to revive “Gilmore Girls,” the popular TV series that aired on the WB from 2000 to 2007.
the limited revival will consist of four 90-minute mini-movies, rather the series of shorter episodes broadcast during each season years ago, media reports said.
Netflix already offers the original series in its lineup.
the “Gilmore Girls” comeback marks another instance of streaming-video giant Netflix along with rivals such as Amazon.comand Yahoo pushing into what used to be exclusively the TV and movie industry’s territory.
“Although negotiations with the cast are only now beginning, I’m told all of the major players — most notably Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Kelly Bishop and Scott Patterson — are expected back for the continuation,” TVLine’s Michael Ausiello reported.
One who isn’t likely to return is Melissa McCarthy, whose career has taken off since the show was cancelled, according to Hollywood Reporter.
