he Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is on course to repeating its “miraculous” Delhi landslide in the Punjab assembly election two years from now but it is not in the race for the 2019 general election, national convenor and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal told the party’s highest decision-making body on Monday.

Addressing members of the AAP national council, Kejriwal also clarified his stance on a recent meeting with Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Lalu Prasad at Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar’s swearing-in ceremony in Patna. Kejriwal said AAP is against Prasad’s record of corruption and dynastic politics and will continue to oppose it.

“We are not here for power politics. People ask if AAP is in the race for 2019. We are not in any race. Delhi’s win was miraculous. We just have to keep working hard and honestly. Don’t run after elections. All indications are that you are going to get the same opportunity in Punjab,” Kejriwal said.

This was the first time the national council was meeting since it expelled founding members Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan from the national executive in April—two months after winning 67 out of 70 seats in the Delhi assembly election.
