Cartoons ~ Color ~ 1935

Directors: Burt Gillett, Tom Palmer

Molly Moo-Cow is an odd character on which to base your cartoon. She's not cartoony enough looking or anthropomorphic like Clarabelle Cow from Disney. Instead, she is stuck on four legs and is orange. Why is she orange? Because at this point, only Disney Studios had access to true color--Three-Strip Technicolor. They'd signed an exclusive contract and other cartoon studios wishing to make color films were forced to use more antiquated film stock--such as Cinecolor or Two-Color Technicolor-- both of which tended to make everything look orangish.

00:04:16Oh, butterflies, butterflies, I'm a professor of butterflies, I swing my net to catch them as they flutter by.
00:04:24Horse flies, shoe flies, fire flies and time flies, but I'm at my best when I'm in a nest of butterflies.
00:04:32Now there are men who like to hunt for tigers and giraffes and elephants and snakes at the equator.
00:04:40Frank Buck's ambition is to bring them back alive. He gets them all from ape to alligator.
00:04:48Now Tarzan gets his pleasure out of wrestling with a lion.
00:04:52Roar!
00:04:55As if it were as gentle as a dove.
00:04:59But such a life for me would be too simple, safe and sure, because catching butterflies is what I love.

00:26:05I'm not afraid of his pins.

00:40:15You need a man around the house, old sourpuss.
00:40:19Man, boy.
00:40:21Man's a boy, you sweep his floor, and cook his meals and dust.
00:40:25And so I stay a spinster gay, in solitude I trust.
00:40:30Ha, ha, I refuse to make life easy for a silly male.
