After losing out to the Diamondbacks in the Zack Greinke sweepstakes, the San Francisco Giants bolstered their pitching rotation Saturday by signing free agent righthander Jeff Samardzija to a five-year, $90 million contract, which is expected to be formally annouced by the club Tuesday pending the completion of Samardzija's physical.
The 30-year-old veteran went 11-13 with a 4.96 ERA in 32 starts for the White Sox this past season, marking his first double-digit win total in eight major league seasons.
Samardzija pitched 214 innings in 2015, the second-highest total of his career, and is expected to be a complement to ace Madison Bumgarner.
