Imaginary Lines – Combating Migrant Detention and Deportation

Hundreds of thousands of Mexican and Central American migrants are deported from the United States each year, causing untold damage to entire families and putting the lives of these migrants at risk. Even before undocumented individuals are deported, however, they are detained and held for days, weeks, months or even years, awaiting sentencing and potential deportation. In the last episode of the year, our host Michael Fox speaks with immigrant rights organizer Raul Al-Qaraz Ochoa, based in Tucson, Arizona, about the current situation of migrants, what goes on inside the migrant detention system, abuses of LGBT and trans-gender detainees, and future community organizing efforts. teleSUR
