DANVILLE, Ohio - The person accused of shooting a Danville Police officer has been captured.

The suspect was taken into custody in Danville shortly before 2 AM, after a two-hour long search.

This all started around midnight Monday, just northeast of Mount Vernon.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol tells 10TV the Danville officer was reported missing while on duty. His hat was found nearby with blood on it. However, the officer and his cruiser were nowhere to be found.

The officer was later found shot outside the Danville Municipal Building.

Franklin County Sheriff Chief Deputy Jim Gilbert confirmed through Twitter that the officer has died. Deputy Gilbert tweeted, "Prayers for Ohio's first fallen officer for 2016 a Danville PD Officer was shot/killed this evening in Knox County."
