Near the village of Vik, on the southern coast of Iceland, is a black sand beach that's said to be the country's most magnificent.


Near the village of Vik, on the southern coast of Iceland, is a black sand beach that's said to be the country's most magnificent. 
Known to the locals as Reynisfjara, the beach is home to massive outcroppings of free-standing basalt stacks known as Reynisdrangar. 
Legend has it that Reynisdrangar was formed when two trolls were in the process of dragging a ship to the shore as daylight broke--freezing them in their tracks.
