A man in California was arrested for suspicion of animal cruelty and other offenses in connection to swinging a bunny around by the ears and lighting the rabbit on fire.

The alleged incident occurred the day before Easter.

Police were tipped off by a concerned citizen, and the report led them to 29-year-old Juan Lemus of Santa Paula.

Lemus asserted the animal was already dead and that the source of the flames was a piece of paper.

An examination performed on the rabbit revealed the cause of death was blunt force trauma.
