The Near Future mods for Kerbal Space Program are a robust and useful series of part mods that fill in the gaps in the late-game in KSP with new engines, electricity generation systems and other just plain useful bits and bobs. If you install the Community Tech Tree with Near Future you'll also have the parts integrated into your career-mode games.
Thanks very much to Damminh Khoi for suggesting Near Future, I'm surprised I hadn't found this mod set sooner. It reminds me of the Interstellar pack but without all of Interstellar's complexity that my brain can't handle!
