2016 Toyota Gazoo Racing TS050 Hybrid

The TS050 Hybrid has a completely different powertrain from its predecessor. There's now a twin-turbo 2.4-liter V6 to replace the TS040's 3.7-liter naturally aspirated V8. There are still motor-generators at the front and rear, but a lithium-ion battery stores the energy instead of super capacitors. In addition, the TS050 now competes in the eight megajoule hybrid class rather than the previous six MJ. The system generates a total of 986 horsepower – 493 hp from the V6 and 493 hp from the hybrid. An updated seven-speed gearbox can cope with the extra torque from the new engine.
