A common flavoring has been skyrocketing in cost which means there might be bad news for some ice cream fans this summer.
According to the Guardian, “The price of Madagascan vanilla surged by nearly 150% last year after the island, the dominant producer, experienced a poor harvest.”
Adding to the problem, reports Bloomberg, is that, as prices started rising, farmers began harvesting the pods early, packaging them, and setting them aside instead of allowing them to mature.
