NASA has successfully launched a ‘super pressure balloon’ from New Zealand – an important step in scientific investigations of the near-space environment.

The launch earlier this week was the fifth attempt to get the balloon in the air. Previous bids had been hampered by bad weather, according to NASA.

The balloon will float at an altitude of 33.5 kilometres and will remain airborne for more than 100 days.
