ARDMORE, OKLAHOMA — An Oklahoma lawman has been charged with felony bribery for allegedly hiring the husband of a female employee nearly 40 years younger than him in exchange for sex.
Carter County Sheriff Milton Anthony, 65, approached Kelli Denney, 26, in summer last year to insinuate that he would hire her husband as a deputy if she began a sexual relationship with him, NewsOK reported.
Denney, with her family’s financial situation in mind, agreed to the deal days later. The two began having sex in July last year, usually on Friday lunch breaks, and often in Anthony’s house.
Denney’s husband Johnny was hired as a deputy on July 30.
Denney stated in a court affidavit that she was close to Sheriff Anthony and had known him all her life. They had sex approximately 10 times, but when she tried to end the contact, the sheriff threatened to fire both her and her husband.
Denney continued the relationship, but started saving text messages and conversations, which she then took to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. Agents arrested the sheriff on Wednesday night. He was booked into Carter County Jail but later released on $20,000 bail.
Anthony faces up to 10 years in jail if convicted of felony bribery, according to KOKH.
