The San Jose Sharks are out to force a deciding seventh game as they host the Pittsburgh Penguins from the NHL Stanley Cup Finals on Sunday night.

Notes: San Jose cut the deficit to 3-2 following the 4-2 road victory in Game 5 to the Pittsburgh Penguins as a +154 betting underdog. The total finished at over five goals.

Despite being outshot by over double 46-22 the Sharks got a huge effort out of goal tender Martin Jones who turned away 44 of the Penguins shots in victory to move his record to 14-5 in the playoffs. For the first time in this series the Sharks scored the first goal of the series and it came early at 1:04 as Brett Burns scored at even strength. It was 2-0 nearly two minutes later and Logan Couture found the net. But Pittsburgh scored twice with the goals coming 20 seconds apart at 4:44 and 5:06 of the first period to make it 2-2. Melker Karlsson for San Jose got the game winner at 14:47 of the first as the Sharks went into the first intermission up 3-2. There was no scoring until the 18:40 mark of the third period as Joe Pavelski scored on an open net to force the series back to San Jose. Penguin’s goalie Matthew Murry saved 18 of 21 shots and saw his playoff record drop to 14-4. Couture had a three point night for San Jose with two assists and a goal in Game 5.
