Volkswagen to pay over $10 billion to cover emissions claims

Volkswagen AG agreed to pay more than $10 billion to settle claims from U.S. owners of diesel-powered vehicles affected by the automaker’s emissions-cheating scandal The deal would address owners of nearly 500,000 diesel-powered vehicles with two-liter engines containing software capable of duping government emissions tests The payout includes buying back vehicles from consumers or repairing them, as well as additional compensation Volkswagen plans to repurchase vehicles based on their value in September before the crisis was disclosed
