LARGO, FLORIDA — A Florida man was arrested on June 21 on charges of grand theft and scheme to defraud for posing as country music star Jason Aldean, in order to trick a mentally disabled woman out of money, and into bed.
Using Facebook for the ploy, 27-year-old Daniel Michael Farris pretended to be Aldean, and convinced the woman a friend of his was in desperate need of money, asking her for $2000. He also told her he loved her.
Posing as Aldean’s friend, he met up with the woman to collect personal cheques on two separate occasions, for a total of $2,360. Farris also persuaded the mentally disabled woman to have sex with him.
In some states, sexual coercion under false pretenses or impersonation is against the law, an offense termed “rape by fraud.” In Florida, there is no specific law prohibiting this, but a good lawyer could still make a case that intelligent, knowing and voluntary consent was not given.
Daniel Michael Farris is being held in jail on $4,000 bond. He told police he knew impersonating Jason Aldean was wrong, but he needed the cash for a prescription pill addiction.
