Born in Genua, Giovanni Battista Dalla Gostena had a key role in the Italian music history between the XVI and XVII century. He began his studies in Genoa to continue them in Vienna with the composer Philippe de Monte, one of the most significant composers of the last period of the French-Flemish school. From 1584 to 1589 Dalla Gostena was kapellmeister at the San Lorenzo Cathedral in Genua. His musical output includes organ works, canzonettas, several madrigals and 3 magnificats, published in Venice and Genua. Dalla Gostena’s complete organ works have been played and recorded for the first time on this CD on the unique 1565 Antegnati organ in the Santa Barbara’s church.
