Prosecutors in St. Joseph County, Indiana announced that no charges will be pressed in connection to last week’s deaths of 14 show dogs, reports the South Bend Tribune.
The animals were in the area to participate in the Michiana Kennel Club AKC Dog Show being held at the county fairgrounds over the weekend.
On Friday, the dogs were placed in the back of an air-conditioned box truck outside a hotel parking lot by a woman who was taking care of the canines on behalf of their owners.  When she checked in on them hours later, all were dead.
According to WSBT, "The truck had air conditioning powered by an extension cord plugged into the exterior of the hotel."
It was determined that, due to the intense heat, one of the truck’s circuit breakers had tripped, cutting off the power source for the cooling system.
An investigation turned up no evidence of malicious activity, and the incident has been labeled a ‘tragic accident.’
