A baby orangutan has been saved by the International Animal Rescue and is slowly recovering after he was found in June with a bullet lodged in his shoulder in West Indonesian Borneo. Didik was probably abandoned once his owners realised it was illegal to keep him, the IAR said. His mother was probably killed so that Didik could be sold as a pet, the IAR added. IAR staff have been feeding him nutritious food and vitamin supplements to help him physically recover. The baby was deeply traumatised after witnessing his mother's death, the IAR said and it could take months or even years for him to recover emotionally.
