SAN PEDRO, CALIFORNIA — A 21-year-old woman died when she plunged off a cliff near Point Fermin after trying to get a better view for a picture last Friday.

Firefighters were called to the 500 block of West Paseo del Mar around 2:10 p.m. to help police and coroners on scene, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department

The woman, identified as Lorena Barrera of Sparks, Nevada, was found dead at the bottom of the cliff, according to an NBC Los Angeles report.

Officials said Barrera has just moved to the Los Angeles area.

She and two friends were at the tourist spot to look at the ocean when she climbed over a 3-foot wall to get a better look and fell about 100-feet down the cliff, police said.

Authorities said Barrera tripped over her flip-flops while attempting to take a picture.

Her two friends tried to grab her, but were unable to save Barrera. They then ran to a Metro bus and asked the driver to call 911, according to KABC.
